Gerard Williams, PhD
Member, The National Academy of Neuropsychology
Member, The American Psychological Association
Bariatric Interdisciplinary Psychologist
Listed, National Register of Health Service
Providers in Psychology
Dr. Williams has been with the Hurley Bariatric Center as a bariatric psychologist since the program’s inception in 1999. He, along with Dr. Obeid, now deceased, shared a common vision of developing a bariatric program that would be the standard against which all other bariatric programs would be compared.
Dr. Williams firmly believes that morbid obesity is a systemic illness that negatively impacts every aspect of a person’s life. He believes morbid obesity and obesity in general can be defeated through education, and medical and psychological intervention.
He works with bariatric patients both before and after weight loss surgery; whether it is gastric bypass surgery, sleeve gastrectomy or adjustable gastric band surgery. Dr. Williams works with our bariatric patients to assure their psychological needs are addressed as they experience the life changes bariatric surgery offers.
Dr. Williams is a licensed psychologist who has arguably conducted more pre-bariatric surgery psychological evaluations than anyone in the Mid-West. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and is listed in The National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He is a Certified Advanced Addictions Counselor and an Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol – Drug Counselor. He stands ready to provide a real-life example of Hurley’s mission of “Clinical Excellence. Service to People.”
