Kaye Kaufherr, RN, BS

Registered Nurse
Bachelor of Science, University of Michigan

Kaye has been in nursing since 1967 and began her career at Hurley Medical Center in 2004. She began working at the Bariatric Center in August, 2005.

Kaye believes the purpose of a nurse is to care for patients, protect their rights, ensure they are informed, and make sure they receive the highest quality of care possible. Her goal is to know the bariatric patients and ensure their safety and well being.

She is amazed as she watches Hurley bariatric patients change their habits, make healthy choices, and begin exercising. It is very rewarding to see patients who have diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and other health issues have many of those issues resolved because they have lost weight. She believes that helping improve a patient’s health and save them from more catastrophic future conditions is a worthy undertaking.

“Bariatrics is the one field in nursing where it is possible to see an immediate difference in a patient’s health condition as a direct result of the patient doing as instructed.

Patients tell us every day how weight loss surgery has changed their lives. They can do things they haven't been able to do for many years. This makes my job very rewarding. I work with a very caring and supportive team.”
